as schemer and dreamer Quebec Bill Bonhomme in a spellbinding Prohibition-era
tale of high-stakes whiskey-smuggling, a family's mysterious past, and a
teenage boy's rite of passage. The
film is based on an award-winning novel by Howard Frank Mosher. Desperate to raise money
to preserve his endangered herd through the rapidly approaching Vermont winter,
Quebec Bill resorts to the traditional family occupation. With his 15-year-old son, Wild Bill,
and two accomplices, he crosses the border into vast reaches of Canadian
wilderness for an unforgettable four days "full of terror, full of wonder." Shifting between scenes of magical
realism and tense action, Disappearances features Genevieve Bujold as the oracle Cordelia. |
